‘Sports Ministry disburse $817,000 in grant funding’

Yesterday, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs advanced its commitment to sport development and athlete empowerment across Trinidad and Tobago with the disbursement of $817,000 in grant funding. A total of 11 cheques were issued to beneficiaries across key categories:
1. High Performance / Elite Athlete Assistance Programme – 1 cheque valued at $250,000.

2. Individuals in the Sport Category – 2 cheques totaling $105.000.

3. National Sporting Organizations and Sport Serving Bodies – 8 cheques totaling $462,000.

‘Gymnast Burke savours stellar season’

 

 

Senior elite gymnast Dailia Burke paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Honourable Phillip Watts at Nicholas Tower yesterday following a standout domestic and regional season.

 

The 15-year-old member of Tots & Tumblers arrived with her parents after collecting several medals at Carifta and Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation (TTGF) Championships. Burke has already marked herself out as one of the country’s brightest junior prospects.

Minister Watts welcomed Burke and her family, praising her discipline and achievements and offering continued support as she progresses through the ranks.

‘Trinidad and Tobago powerlifter Joseph McDonald breaks record, strikes gold in Costa Rica’

 

 

The raw power, strength and determination of national champion Joseph McDonald were on full display in San Jose, Costa Rica, on September 5 when he overcame a shaky start to reel in the gold medal in the 120 kg weight class at the 2025 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Junior Powerlifting Championships.
