University of Indianapolis swimmer Zachary Anthony set a new national record in the 15 and over men’s 800-metre freestyle event when day one of the Invitational Age Group Championships swam off at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on December 13.

Anthony proved a clear cut above the rest as he completed the distance in eight minutes and 39.04 seconds (8:39.04), setting a new national record in the process. Anthony’s swim eclipsed the legendary Goergoe Bovell III’s time of 8.40.64, which was set over 25 years ago in June 2000.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Liam Carrington has earned five medals — three gold, one silver and one bronze — so far at the Speedo Winter Junior Swim Championships in Indianapolis, having delivered a series of standout performances across December 10–13.

The local golf community is mourning the loss of Peter “Scorpion” Lutchmansingh, one of the country’s most accomplished and beloved professionals.

Lutchmansingh died on the morning of December 12 after ailing for some time.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Senator David Nakhid says the start of the DNA East–West Corridor Football League is a success.

The opening saw a strong turnout of Government Ministers and legends of the football fraternity, as Wallerfield United defeated FC Arima in the league’s first match.
