In a letter addressed to “all affiliated clubs, athletes, coaches and members”, yesterday, National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAATT) president Ephraim Serrette said “the funding required to facilitate the team’s participation could not be secured.”

West Indies Under-19 batter Brendan Boodoo will captain the Trinidad and Tobago team at this year’s West Indies Rising Stars 50-over Under-19 Championship in Antigua.

Boodoo, prolific in local youth cricket this year, will lead a 14-man squad at the tournament, with Renaldo Fournillier being his vice-captain.

Marena Martinez shattered a long-standing national age-group record while Evan Gillard-Bruce achieved a World Aquatics qualifying standard as the curtain came down on the Aquatics Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) National Age-Group Short Course Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Sunday.

The final day of competition produced the championship’s biggest performances, with 14-year-old Marlins Aquatics Club swimmer Martinez rewriting the Girls’ 13-14 1,500 metres freestyle record in the morning session.

The Trinidad and Tobago Women’s 3×3 Basketball team continues to bolster its roster ahead of the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic.

Their latest addition is former WNBA player and Atlanta Dream shooting guard Rosemarie Julien.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games officially opened on Thursday at Scotland’s OVO Hydro Stadium, marking the start of two weeks of competition involving 74 nations.

The dazzling ceremony culminated with all teams taking the stage, proudly showcasing their national colours.

Trinidad and Tobago’s 36-member contingent was led by flag bearers, heavyweight boxer Nigel Paul and netball star Joelisa Cooper.

Double Olympic medallist Keshorn Walcott, sprinters Leah Bertrand and Jereem Richards, and cyclist Nicholas Paul will take the front positions in the T&T team for the coming Commonwealth Games, which will take place July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland.

A total delegation of 60 members will represent T&T until August 3, 2026, with the team comprising 17 men and 19 women and 24 officials (14 men and 10 women).
