Trinidad and Tobago bobsledders slide to extended podium medal

Trinidad and Tobago’s four-man bobsled team captured their first extended podium medal after placing a credible fourth and fifth, in separate races, at the North American Cup, which concluded in Whistler, Canada, from November 23-24.

Of the 14 competing nations on November 23, TT’s quartet of pilot Axel Brown, Xaverri WIlliams, Shakeel John and De Aundre John clocked 53.60 seconds in the first heat, and an improved 52.89 in the second, to amass a total time of one minute and 46.49s (1:46.49).

Sex sells, and international sport governing bodies are contributing to the sexualisation of world sport. 

​Sport is at risk of becoming practiced pornography with increasing sexualisation, commercialisation, and commodification of athletes’ bodies.

Sport governing federations and organisations must take a hard look at the trend towards adult entertainment and soft pornography. More must be done to protect and safeguard athletes, in particular women and girls.

Promising female cyclist Makaira Wallace earned Trinidad and Tobago's first piece of silverware at the Bolivarian Games in Ayacucho-Lima, Peru, on December 01, when she placed third in the women's keirin final.

In the six-woman field for the final, Cuadrado was again a tough opponent to overcome as she won gold ahead of Venezuela's Jalymar Rodriguez, with Wallace sprinting over the line to ensure her spot on the podium as she bagged bronze.

T&T Cyclist Nicholas Paul exhibited impressive sprinting and Strategic skills to seal the gold medal in the men's sprint at the Bolivian Games in Peru on Tuesday night.

He defeated Colombian sprint ace Kevin Quintero in two straight rides in the final of the match sprint for his title.

University of Indianapolis swimmer Zachary Anthony set a new national record in the 15 and over men’s 800-metre freestyle event when day one of the Invitational Age Group Championships swam off at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on December 13.

Anthony proved a clear cut above the rest as he completed the distance in eight minutes and 39.04 seconds (8:39.04), setting a new national record in the process. Anthony’s swim eclipsed the legendary Goergoe Bovell III’s time of 8.40.64, which was set over 25 years ago in June 2000.
